Clemons named school board chair for 2025

The Roanoke County School Board has selected Cave Spring District member Shelley Clemons as the chair of the board for 2025.  This is Clemons' first term as board chair.  Clemons was elected to serve on the Roanoke County School Board in 2023 and is the third woman that has been elected to the school board. 

Clemons worked as a field director for a local nonprofit agency for a number of years, where she was focused on membership, training, and providing programs for area youth. She then moved to the financial industry where she has continued her career for the last 18 years. 

Clemons and her husband have two children who attend Roanoke County Public Schools. She has served in our schools for the last 11 years, most of those years as PTA/PTO president. She says that being involved in our schools, providing programs for our students, and recognizing our school staff has been one of her most rewarding experiences. 

In addition, the board selected Catawba District member, Brent Hudson, as the vice-chair for 2025.  This is his second term as vice-chair of the board.

The board also announced the dates and times for meetings and work sessions 2025.  Unless otherwise stated, regular school board meetings and work sessions will be held at the RCPS Central Office located at 5937 Cove Road in Roanoke.  Meetings and work sessions are open to the public.  Those wishing to speak during the public comment period during regular school board meetings must sign up in advance by 8 a.m. the day of the meeting using the form found at www.rcps.us/schoolboard.  School board meetings and work sessions will be streamed live and will be available for playback at www.rcps.us/schoolboardmeetings.  Meeting and work session agendas can be found at https://www.rcps.us/SBagenda.
